Canovation and CANPACK have announced a collaboration to support the next phase of development for CanReseal, a resealable aluminium can-end system. The partnership is intended to help move the technology from late-stage development toward pilot-scale deployment and future commercial applications.

Under the agreement, the two companies will work on the remaining development and manufacturing activities needed to prepare CanReseal for implementation on pilot production lines.

Canovation said the collaboration combines its proprietary resealable can-end technology with CANPACK’s manufacturing expertise and global presence in the beverage packaging sector. The companies aim to bridge the gap between product development and large-scale manufacturing by focusing on technical validation and production readiness.

Canovation will also continue working with its long-time development partner, Stolle Machinery Company, which provides engineering, tooling and equipment support for the project.

"We are excited to formalise our relationship with CANPACK as we move into the final stages of commercial readiness and validation," said Jeff Grajewski, Chief Operating Officer of Canovation. "This collaboration allows us to align closely with a global manufacturing leader as we prepare for pilot production and commercialisation."

"This relationship reflects our continued commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable packaging technologies," said Fabio Hees, Group Commercial Officer at CANPACK. "We look forward to working with Canovation to prepare CanReseal® for commercialisation."

CanReseal has been designed as a resealable aluminium can end that can be integrated into existing can manufacturing and filling operations without requiring major changes to current infrastructure.

The technology is aimed at improving convenience for consumers while supporting broader sustainability goals within the packaging industry. According to the company, the system leverages aluminium’s recyclability and established collection networks while offering an alternative to certain single-use plastic packaging formats.

The technology is expected to support features such as resealable beverage packaging, compatibility with existing production systems and improved portability for consumers.

The collaboration marks another step towards bringing the CanReseal system into commercial use within the aluminium beverage packaging market.
