Brazil’s aluminium plate, sheet and strip imports fall YoY

According to newly report published by Allied Market Research, the global aluminium flat rolled market volume is forecasted to grow at CAGR of 4.0 per cent from 2016 to 2022. The major demand for flat rolled products is forecasted to come from China. China is followed by India and Brazil. The transport sector is expected to show the highest growth.

Let us analyse the trading patterns of last two years for Plate, Sheet and Strip imports by Brazil and an outlook for 2017.

Brazil imported an estimated 62595 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips in 2015. In 2016, the country imported 54415 tonnes. The country is estimated to import 32587 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips in 2017. Brazil is expected to see a major drop in the imports of aluminium plates, sheets and strips when compared to last year.

Value-wise, Brazil's total aluminium plates, sheets and strips imports reached USD 214 million in 2015. The figure decreased with USD 172 million in 2016. The country’s total value is estimated to be around USD 99.80 million in 2017. The value is also estimated to fall considerably this year.

China is the top exporter of aluminium plates, sheets, strips to Brazil. In 2016, the country exported around 25031 tonnes of this product to Brazil. Brazil imported 14134 tonnes and 4826 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips from Germany and South Africa respectively.
