Located on Western Cape York Peninsula, Kangwinan will add 20 million tonnes of annual bauxite production capacity, with first output targeted for 2029 and full production expected by 2032. Australian Bauxite Ltd (ABx) has finalised an offtake agreement with Rawmin Mining and Industries Pvt Ltd of Mumbai, India. The agreement, which covers all bauxite produced by ABx out of Tasmania and runs five years, provides for Rawmin to buy 4.7 million wet metric tonnes of bauxite commencing with 200,000 WMT to March 31, 2016 and ramping up to 1.5 million WMT per annum from April 1, 2018. The offtake agreement further provides for blended shipments of ABx and Rawmin bauxite on a profit share basis for any blending profits achieved.

Malaysia Pahang's bauxite operators will have to foot the bill once the state government decides to adopt the ore dust control agent known as Adherex 120. The state government was yesterday given a demonstration of the product, which aims to cut down on the 'red dust' phenomenon which has hit the town following a spike in bauxite mining activities there. In the wake of global economic slowdown and aluminium price decline, which have severely affected demand, bauxite shipments to China have been reported to have come to a standstill. But, Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Ltd's executive Derek Qiu said they were anticipating a shipment before the end of the year. "Probably by next month we are hoping to hear progress for shipment, but as of now there have been no shipments and no confirmation of any shipments in the near future," Derek Qiu said. Guizhou provinces in China recently announced the discovery of two new bauxite deposits. Preliminary studies suggest, bauxite reserves at one deposit in Zheng'an County are 20.98 million tones (mt), while at another deposit in Wuchan County, bauxite reserves stand at 33.24 mt. Bauxite reserves in China’s Guizhou province grew for four years running, according to the Guizhou Land & Resources Department. By the end of 2014, bauxite reserve base in the province stood at 133 mt, up 1 mt from 2013. Over the past few years, the number of small bauxite mines in Guizhou has decreased sharply due to stricter management by the local government.
