National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) has submitted an application for environmental clearance with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) for its bauxite mine in Pottangi, Odisha. The expert committee of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change will examine Nalco’s application on January 19, 2018. The Pottangi bauxite mine will have an annual production capacity of 3.5 million tonnes. The bauxite mine with 75 million tonnes of reserve will supply company’s refinery of one million tonne capacity at Damanjodi. Global miner Rio Tinto today announced production results for the fourth quarter and full year 2017. Rio Tinto’s bauxite production in 2017 was six per cent higher than 2016. According to an update from proactiveinvestors Australia, Lindian Resources Ltd is set to start drilling at the Lushoto Bauxite Project in Tanzania. The company has received a fund of $500,000 for 12 months, to undertake drilling at Magambe deposit. This was one of the key objectives behind the binding heads of agreement that was negotiated in August 2017. Several improvements will be implemented to streamline the transportation of bauxite for export after the stockpile seizure order was withdrawn by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
