Ball Beverage Packaging at its two operations in Sri City and Taloja, India, has acquired ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard Certification for the manufacturing and supply of aluminium can bodies, as well as the procurement and delivery of can ends. The Ball facilities have been awarded the first ASI Certifications in India, a major producer of aluminium.

Ball Beverage Packaging India, a subsidiary of Ball Corporation, has been successfully accredited against the ASI Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard for responsible aluminium manufacturing, procurement, and stewardship for its Sri City and Taloja, India facilities. With the new certifications, there are now 40 dual ASI Certified Ball Corporation sites across the world.
The ASI Certification programme is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain, and it was established after considerable multi-stakeholder input. With the goal of addressing sustainability challenges in the aluminium value chain, the ASI Performance Standard establishes environmental, social, and governance principles and standards. Under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment, and Social, it lays forth 59 criteria that address critical concerns including biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples' rights, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The ASI CoC Standard specifies the standards for establishing a Chain of Custody for materials that are generated and processed across the value chain before being distributed to various downstream industries. The application of ASI's CoC Standard connects verified procedures at various stages of the supply chain – all of which are certified under the ASI Performance Standard – to ASI Certified Entities' goods.
TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH conducted independent third-party audits of the Ball Beverage Packaging India operations.
“ASI warmly congratulates Ball Corporation on achieving dual ASI Certification at its Ball Beverage Packaging India operations in Sri City and Taloja. Ball Corporation’s ASI journey has seen it become the first beverage can producer to achieve ASI Certification, also with the first certified beverage can production facilities in South America, and now the first ASI Certified facilities in India. These firsts demonstrate not only the company’s support of ASI’s mission and vision, but also its unwavering commitment to implementing responsible practices in its operations worldwide. We look forward to more ASI Certifications in India in future,” said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
“The ASI certification is a testament to our continuous efforts in driving sustainability for ourselves and our customers. As India demonstrates a greater desire for genuinely sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions, we’re working closely with our beverage customers to help them deliver on this critical ask from consumers and stakeholders. We are proud of this certification and are fully committed to helping India achieve its carbon reduction targets, while providing our customers with sustainable solutions that epitomize circularity,” said Mr. Amit Lahoti, Senior Director and General Manager, Ball Beverage Packaging, Asia.
