On Wednesday, May 17, China’s A00 aluminium ingot price has extended its growth for the third consecutive day by RMB 150 per tonne to settle at RMB 18,390 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 18,370 per tonne and RMB 18,410 per tonne. The spot contract price may be traded at a premium price of RMB 100 per tonne to RMB 140 per tonne. Alcoa and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) have signed one of the largest alumina supply contracts, which can help in strengthening the long-term supply relationship between the two companies. Under the new multi-year deal, Alcoa will be providing EGA with smelting quality alumina, making the former EGA's biggest third-party alumina supplier. Volume options will enable EGA to purchase up to 15.6 million tonnes of alumina from Western Australia for the eight-year arrangement, which begins in 2024. Aluminium scrap exports from the United States closed at 174,374 tonnes in March 2023, up 11 per cent from 157,101 tonnes in February. However, exports declined by 2 per cent Y-o-Y in March, compared to 178,575 t in the same month last year. The principal scrap grades shipped by the US were Zorba and Taint Tabor (TT), and India was the second biggest importer of aluminium scrap from the US. Compared to other US locations, Los Angeles had the most scrap migration, followed by New York and Norfolk.
