US alumina imports plunge sequentially by 36.42% to 323,000 tonnes in 1Q2023
The United States alumina imports in the first quarter of 2023 ended March 31, stood at 323,000 tonnes, reflecting a sharp decline of 36.42 per cent sequentially from 508,000 tonnes, found the US Census Bureau data. On a year-on-year basis, the imports registered a fall of 27.42 per cent from 445,000 tonnes. Last year, the United States imported 1.88 million tonnes of alumina – 21.29 per cent more than 1.55 million tonnes in 2021. Australia, which emerged as a significant exporter of alumina to the United States in the fourth quarter of 2022, supplying 161,000 tonnes, provided nothing in Q1 2023, according to the USGS data. Aluminium Steward Initiative has acknowledged seven facilities of Yunnan Aluminium Co., Ltd. with Performance Standard V3 (2022) and Chain of Custody Standard certifications. All of them are located across six prefectures of Yunnan, China. Yunnan Aluminium has vertically integrated operations covering most of the aluminium value chain, including bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting, casting, and semi-fabrication of aluminium products. Iran begins the calendar year 1402 on low-key with aluminium ingot output dropping 2% Y-o-Y
The data revealed by Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) indicates a 2 per cent year-on-year decline in Iran’s aluminium ingot production during the first two months of the calendar year 1402 (March 21-May 21). Hydro, a Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company, announced that it would relocate its aluminium technology centre from Zeeland to Cassapolis in Michigan, giving it a bigger space and better infrastructure. US crude and dried bauxite imports in 1Q2023 record a 39% Q-o-Q slump
The United States imports of crude and dried bauxite dropped drastically during the first quarter of 2023 both on a quarterly and annual basis, found the US Geological Survey. As per the data, the US imported 462,000 tonnes of bauxite in Q1 2023 ended March 31, which reflected a 38.97 per cent downfall from 757,000 tonnes in Q4 or December quarter of 2022. In March 2023, India imported 36,400 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the United States compared to 31,000 tonnes in February, found the US Census Bureau data. According to a report on Thursday, June 15, Hydro is close to fulfilling the primary condition of the tender offer for 100 per cent of the shares in Alumetal.
