Primary aluminium price narrows further across all major Chinese markets

The city of Binzhou in China plans to develop high-end aluminium projects
The city of Binzhou in Shandong province, east China, has stepped further to provide support to the high-end aluminium industry by developing five new projects, Reuters report. According to a local government document, Shandong province, home to top aluminum producer China Hongqiao Group, has already initiated the plan. One of the projects includes building an aluminium alloy plant with production capacity of 10,000 tonne-per-year (tpy) by Huachuang Metal, according to the document dated Aug. 30 on the Binzhou city government website. China’s bauxite import records M-o-M plunge by 2.2% in July on lowered arrival from Guinea
China’s bauxite imports found decreased in July by China Customs from a month ago as rainy season lowered the supply from Guinea. {newsStudioGallery} Data showed China imported a total volume of 7,280,000 tonnes of bauxite in July, compared to 7,440,160 tonnes in June. Canyon upgrades bauxite resource for its Minim Martap bauxite project
Canyon Resources Limited has reportedly upgraded the JORC 2004 resource for its Minim Martap Bauxite Project in the Adamawa region of Cameroon, alongside Canyon’s existing Birsok Bauxite Project, to a JORC 2012 compliant resource. The resource has 550 million tonnes of an average grade of 45.5 per cent aluminium oxide and 2.06 per cent of silicon dioxide. The German association of the aluminium industry (GDA) found that the development of business activity in German aluminium sector remained positive in H1 2018. The production reportedly increased up to 0.9 per cent. But the output from aluminium converters saw a drop by 1.3 per cent. Shanghai Metals Market research found that some 730,000 tonnes of primary aluminium capacities across China closed during June-August because of high costs and relatively low prices of aluminium. Capacities belonged to five aluminium manufacturers, including Shaanxi Tongchuan Aluminum, Lanzhou Liancheng Aluminium, and Shandong Zouping Aluminium. Data also showed that about 900,000 tonnes of primary aluminium capacities have been permanently shut so far this year. Auto components maker Amtek Auto reported yesterday, August 29, a lower standalone net loss of INR 80.21 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2017. The net loss, during the contemporary period last year, had stood at INR 241.56 crore, as the company posted. This means the standalone net loss in Q4 2017 dropped by 66 per cent year-on-year. The Aluminium Association of India (AAI) has reportedly drawn the attention of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to the critical coal shortage situation. The government had decided to allocate more coal-bearing railway rakes to the electricity generation sector which in turn has affected the power-intensive aluminium industry. In a letter written to the PM’s Office, the aluminium industry has demanded the resumption of regular fuel supply as per the contracted quantity and also complained about the reduction of supplies without prior notifications.
