Century Aluminium reports an increase in Q2 primary aluminium shipments by 4% but a decline in net sales to $401.9 million
The United States-based primary aluminium producer Century Aluminium Company announced its second quarter results on Wednesday, August 5, mentioning an increase in primary aluminium shipments by 3.65 per cent quarter-on-quarter. According to the report, the shipments in Q2 2020 increased from 202,905 tonnes in Q1 to 210,309 tonnes. Net sales, however, reflected a downtrend from $421.2 million in Q1 to $401.9 million in Q2, primarily attributing to lower LME prices and regional premiums. According to the latest data shown by the US Geological Statistics, the United States aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports in May 2020 stood at 39,900 tonnes, down by 46.44 per cent month-on-month from 74,500 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, the exports in May 2020 were down by 46 per cent as well from 73,800 tonnes, showed the data. Hindalco Industries Limited has extended its aluminium ingot and aluminium product price hike for the third time in a row with effect from Wednesday, August 5. The United States aluminium imports (including scrap) in May 2020 stood at 423,000 tonnes, registering a downfall of 5.16 per cent from 446,000 tonnes in April, found the latest date of the US Geological Survey. The imports in April were significantly up by 59.29 per cent from 280,000 tonnes in March. In February, the United States aluminium imports were 238,000 tonnes, up month-on-month by 63 per cent from 146,000 tonnes.
