US aluminium imports record a plunge of 5% in May 2020 after four consecutive months of hike
The United States aluminium imports (including scrap) in May 2020 stood at 423,000 tonnes, registering a downfall of 5.16 per cent from 446,000 tonnes in April, found the latest date of the US Geological Survey. The imports in April were significantly up by 59.29 per cent from 280,000 tonnes in March. In February, the United States aluminium imports were 238,000 tonnes, up month-on-month by 63 per cent from 146,000 tonnes. The latest report from the United States Geological Survey shows the primary aluminium output in the US in May 2020 stood at 96,000 tonnes, up 4,000 tonnes or 4.35 per cent from 92,000 tonnes in April. On a year-on-year comparison, the production in the US in May stood higher by 2,000 tonnes or 2.13 per cent. The average daily production in May 2020 was 3,090 tonnes, essentially unchanged from that in April 2020 but slightly more than that in May 2019. Alumina production in North America grows by 6% M-o-M in June 2020; South America’s output lowers by 4%
In June 2020, the alumina production (including metallurgical-grade alumina) in North America stood at 223,000 tonnes, up by 6.19 per cent month-on-month from 210,000 tonnes, according to the data released by the International Aluminium Institute.
