India’s aluminium scrap imports from US continue to grow by 70% in July 2020
According to the latest data shared by the US Geological Survey, India imported 21,700 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the United States in July 2020 versus 12,800 tonnes in June. This means India secured 8,900 tonnes or 69.53 per cent more scrap in July than the previous month. The USGS data found that India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States have been increasing month-on-month since June. From 4,190 tonnes in May, India’s aluminium scrap imports in June increased by 8,610 tonnes or 205 per cent to stand at 12,800 tonnes. Vedanta Limited has increased its aluminium ingot and aluminium product prices with effect from Tuesday, September 29, following two consecutive declines on September 18 and 24. Vedanta is now selling its aluminium ingot at INR 145,750-158,750 per tonne, up by INR 1,500 per tonne or 1 per cent from INR 144,250-157,250 per tonne on September 24. With the latest hike, Vedanta’s aluminium wire rod price has come in at INR 153,250-160,750 per tonne, higher by INR 1,500 per tonne or 1 per cent than INR 151,750-159,250 per tonne. According to the latest data released by the International Aluminium Institute, world alumina production in August 2020 stood flat at 11.366 million tonnes, following a hike of 3.1 per cent from 11.029 million tonnes in June to 11.367 tonnes in July 2020. Alpha HPA has reportedly manufactured a batch of 99.99% high purity alumina (HPA) coating pre-cursor material at its demonstration plant as part of its HPA First project that aims to produce 10,000 tonnes per annum HPA and related products.
