The global aluminium industry must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 77 per cent before 2050, largely by shifting to green electricity, in an attempt to meet climate change goals, said the International Aluminium Institute on Tuesday, March 16. “The challenge for us and for many sectors is reducing those emissions while growing production to meet demand,” said Chris Bayliss, IAI deputy secretary general. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, secondary aluminium producers operating rates in China recorded a month-on-month plunge of 20.8 percentage points in February 2021 to stand at 41.35 per cent. According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, China’s aluminium production gained 8.4 per cent year-on-year in the first two months of 2021, attributing to new capacities and soaring prices. Hydro posts higher Underlying EBIT in FY2020 at NOK 6,051 million even amid lower net income of 21% Y-o-Y
Hydro’s reported Underlying EBIT in FY2020 stood at NOK 6,051 million compared to NOK 3,359 million in FY2019 and NOK 9,069 million in FY2018. Rio Tinto has reportedly entered an agreement with Amaero, a leader in metal additive manufacturing, for providing with the first commercial batch of high-performance aluminium-scandium alloy. The product will be supplied from the Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT) metallurgical complex in Canada, the first-ever North American supply source of scandium oxide. Kazakhstan Aluminium Smelter (KAS), part of the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), has reportedly bought new specialised equipment to move its aluminium storage containers faster and safer. Earlier, the company used to move storage containers with a crane that held up to 25 tonnes of aluminium. However, now the new reach-stacker equipment is able to move up to 45 tonnes. One of the biggest advantages of the new equipment is its manoeuvrability. The equipment has wheels that can rotate by up to 90 degrees, while its operator’s cab can be adjusted forwards and backwards to maintain a safe distance from the cargo.
