Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that Aludium's plant in Alicante and Amorebieta (Spain) was successfully certified against the ASI Chain of Custody Standard V1. These facilities just received re-certification after achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification in December 2019.

The certification applies to the Aludium Alicante plant (Spain), which includes the casthouse, cold rolling, finishing, administrative facilities, and R&D Center, as well as the Aludium Amorebieta plant (Spain), which consists of the casthouse, hot rolling, cold rolling, finishing, and administrative facilities. The business manufactures aluminium products utilised in many downstream industries, such as building and construction, packaging, and transportation.
"The ASI CoC certification is a relevant milestone in our Sustainability Roadmap underling our commitment to substantially reduce our environmental footprint. This is a solid basis to continue our growth in selected markets maintaining the competitive advantage of first movers. We remain focused to develop tailor made low carbon solutions for our customers and to contribute on the journey to a net-zero industry," said Lionel Chapis, CEO of Aludium.

The ASI CoC Standard specifies certain standards to provide a Chain of Custody for material that is generated and processed across the value chain and into various downstream sectors. The application of ASI's CoC Standard establishes a connection between the goods made by ASI Certified Entities and verified processes at different supply chain stages approved under the ASI Performance Standard.
The CoC Standard also attests to adequate policies and due diligence procedures for identifying and resolving critical issues in the supply chain, such as corruption, violations of human rights, materials coming from high-risk and conflict-affected regions, and support for responsible sourcing.
“We warmly congratulate Aludium on achieving ASI CoC Certification for its Alicante and Amorebieta facilities. By increasing its capacity to recycle aluminium scrap over the past years, Aludium is set to play an increasingly important role in the circular economy. The potential to create closed loops with its customers offers an additional benefit of maintaining the unique properties of the recycled aluminium, allowing it to be put into the same uses, not downcycled. Now, ASI Chain of Custody Certification enables Aludium’s customers to source ASI Certified products,” stated Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
