Albras – Alumínio Brasileiro S/A has been certified against ASI Performance Standard and ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard certification for its smelting and casting activities at the Barcarena, Brazil facility.
The plant manufactures primary aluminium, as well as aluminium foundry alloy ingots, which are primarily destined for the automotive sector.

The ASI Certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process. The independent, third-party audits of the ALBRAS facility were carried out by DNV GL.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We sincerely congratulate Albras and its shareholders, Hydro and NAAC, on achieving the dual ASI Certification. As the largest producer of primary aluminium in Brazil, the achievement of this certification is an important demonstration that the plant has responsible production practices in place. We are pleased that Hydro is not only progressing with ASI Certification at its wholly owned facilities, but also through its joint ventures, with this latest bringing Hydro’s total ASI Certifications to 12.”
“ASI certification is the result of many improvements developed over the past few years and consolidates Albras in an important international position. Our company prioritizes people, has standardized processes and controls its entire production chain, focusing on sustainability”, said João Batista Menezes, Albras’ president.
