
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba) is reiterating its commitment towards a sustainable aluminium future by joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) in February 2019. The soon to be largest single site smelter has been working towards becoming a sustainable aluminium producer by strictly adhering to safety and environment rules.

The press release from the company says that Alba has become a Production and Transformation member of the ASI due to its the latest ISO certification, its implementation of International Finance Corporation requirements and also for maintaining a high performance Safety and Health records. The company has also been demonstrating its initiatives to protect the environment. The company says that this membership has brought them closer to achieving international standards and practices in their production processes so that it can be maintained throughout the aluminium value chain.
Speaking on the membership gain, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, said:
“Joining the ASI is a great stride for Alba but as we have a rigorous audit process ahead of us, we need to be extremely prepared as the only easy day was yesterday. To become more sustainable, we must continue to take extreme ownership in everything we do, and to streamline our processes and procedures to be aligned with the ASI requirements.”
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standards setting and certification organisation meant for the producers, users and stakeholders in the aluminium value chain in order to contribute towards a sustainable world.
