The International Organization of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers (AEROBAL) revealed that during the first half of 2022, global exports by its members had increased by 5.5 per cent, reaching a total of almost 3 billion units.

According to the reports, the surge in demand was mainly contributed by the hairspray, home goods and medicines industry. The hairspray industry reported a growth of 34 per cent compared to 2021, home good hiked by 15 per cent and medicines ascended by 9 per cent. The volume-dominant deodorant market and the 1.2 per cent contribution from the perfume market accounted for almost 57 per cent of all deliveries.
“The global energy crisis, logistics bottlenecks and the lack of skilled workers are amongst the biggest worries of international aluminium aerosol can producers. In many regions energy and gas prices have recently skyrocketed and put can producers under great pressure. In addition, the industry is increasingly struggling to find skilled labour which has become a strategically important factor for all companies to stay competitive in future,” said Wan Tsang Lin, president of AEROBAL.

However, manufacturers of aluminium aerosol cans are wary of a potential recession in the most prominent countries that may lower sales. According to reports, inflation also affects customers' capacity to spend money, which might affect demand for fast-moving consumer items like body care products, which make up around 80 per cent of shipments to AEROBAL members.
Europe and the Americas accounted for 70 per cent of shipments to AEROBAL members, which were both up 11 per cent and 2.6 per cent, respectively. The Middle East had a significant increase in shipments of almost 28 per cent, whereas increases in Asia and Australasia were only 3.2 per cent.
In fact, the aluminium sector is being represented by Alcoa, Rio Tinto, and Emirates Global Aluminium in their support of the Mission Possible Partnership's plans to decarbonize the trucking, aviation, shipping, and steel industries by the year 2030. AEROBAL projected a 1.2 per cent decline in global shipments in 2021, with high demand this year for packaging used for hairspray, home products, and prescription drugs after a prior reduction.
"The material has exceptional features including high formability, lightweight, and unprecedented recyclability, which are significant for decreasing the carbon footprint during transit, manufacture, and recycling, and hence contribute to resource-efficient packaging solutions," added Wan Tsang Lin.
