AEROBAL, the International Organisation of Aluminium Aerosol Container Manufacturers has invited entries for this year’s best aluminium aerosol cans award. About 70 per cent of all aluminium aerosol can producers worldwide are members of AEROBAL. Packaging Europe's editor in chief, Tim Sykes and a number of other media biggies from well-known international packaging and can magazines would comprise the panel of judges.
Commenting on the award, Gregor Spengler, Secretary General of AEROBAL says. “Our World Aluminium Aerosol Can Award is a truly global exhibition of our sector’s capabilities.” “The competition is not only a yardstick for the aluminium aerosol can’s high quality standard, it also serves as a pointer to trends in future developments. Moreover, it is a valuable indicator of what is happening in the can markets and where packaging is heading. This year’s winning cans are literally the best examples.”
Among the category of cans that are already launched, ‘She is a Clubber’ aluminium can from Turkish producer Aryum received the maximum votes. The can has won votes for its smartt concept for countering product piracy. Hunca Cosmetics, the owner of the “She” brand high regard in Turkey and the Middle East. Because of its popularity, Aryum suggested making the can more counterfeiting-proof by using a shaping technique in the printed image.
The face of the can has an embossed heart shape with the brand name ‘She’ printed in the centre. The brand name is also printed at back of the can and also in embossing around the can.

In the prototypes category, the can “PURITY” by German manufacturer Tubex won maximum votes because of its innovative manufacturing technology. This is the first aluminium aerosol can which was manufactured without the lacquering that used to be a must in these types of cans inside and outside for the shaping process.
It also optimised some of the can’s mechanical properties, such as a higher burst pressure. PURITY can manufacturing technique improves production cost, shortens production processes, improves mechanical product standards and demands less investments in machinery, thereby reducing ecological footprint due to less energy consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
AEROBAL Secretary General Gregor Spengler is impressed by the voting result and the standard of the participants. “The entries have documented once again the imaginativeness and the innovative spirit of the aluminium aerosol can industry.”
“And it is remarkable that the prototype category was won by an aluminium aerosol can that can be produced without lacquering on either the inside or the outside. For customers, sustainability is currently right at the top of the agenda. In this respect this packaging solution can contribute to improving both the environmental performance and the cost effectiveness of the aluminium aerosol can,” he added.
