Above 1,600 Emiratis apply for UAE’s expanding aluminum sector
2MINS READ
The importance of the growing aluminium sector in UAE was reflected recently at Tawdheef 2014 career fair that has witnessed a record number of applications from Emiratis.
Over 1,600 UAE Nationals have applied to work at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the UAE based jointly-owned aluminium conglomerate to be formed by Investment Corporation of Dubai and Mubadala Development Corporation through integration of Emal, Emirates Aluminium and Dubai Aluminium, Dubal.
Saeed Al Mazrooei, CEO of UAE Operations, said, "Emiratisation is at the core of our strategy for an expanding aluminium sector in the UAE. As a main driver for industrial diversification, the aluminium industry is key to providing a prosperous future for the nation. Emirati talent has been at the fore as the UAE established itself as a leading global player. Our goal is to increase, develop and strengthen our distinctive Emirati identity even further. Effective and continuous development, superb career opportunities and high growth of human capital in line with our growth strategy will be fundamental aspects of EGA’s efforts to recruit and retain UAE nationals."
About 7,200 people are directly employed currently across Dubal and Emal. It is expected the expansion plans of EGA, locally and also across the world, will create more 2,000 direct jobs by the year 2020.
Emiratisation at Dubal and Emal stands currently at around 18%. In order to increase the level, EGA will leverage National Development Programmes in place at Emal and Dubal, whereby young UAE national talent is recruited pro-actively and retained through training, planning, succession and professional development. The company offers diverse career opportunities from operations to senior management. After the completion of training programs, guaranteed employment will be secured. Additionally, scholarship programmes will enable UAE national students to attend various recognised UAE colleges and universities.
Twadheef 2014, held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 3-5th February, is an important event in the UAE calendar. It brings together the leading employers of the country as well as best local talent. Emal has attended the event quite regularly and saw 300 UAE nationals recruited last year to the company.
