3M announces plans to expand, add jobs

A company announces plans to add jobs in Menomonie.
On Thursday, 3M announced a nearly $29 million expansion to its ACCR aluminum transmission conductor line. The company says there's high demand for the product, which is used to upgrade power lines.
"If you have a transmission line that's constrained and you need to put more power through it, you can replace the existing conductor with wire, without building a new transmission line, without rebuilding the towers or disrupting the environment and double the existing capacity of that transmission line," says Tim Koenig, 3M High Capacity Conductor Program Director.
3M has a year worth of orders for the product from across the globe. To meet the demand they're doubling production, a move that could add 25 new jobs.
