Vietnam imported about 630 thousand tonnes of aluminium bar rods and profiles in Q1 2018

Vietnam’s imports of aluminium bar rods and profiles increased during the last three years. The country imported about 2 million tonnes of aluminium bar rods and profiles in 2017. The figure represented an increase from the previous year’s import volume when it reached 1.5 million tonnes. The aluminium bar rods and profiles import is again expected to rise reaching 3 million tonnes by December end.

Aluminium bars accounts for 4.2 per cent of total imports of the country. The major countries from where Vietnam has been importing its aluminium bar rods and profiles include China, Mexico, the USA, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand.

According to recent estimates, in the first quarter of 2018, Vietnam’s aluminium bar rods and profiles import reached an estimated total of 629540 tonnes. The cost of import stood at USD 1.6 billion.  

The estimated aluminium bar rods and profiles is expected to reach 715055 tonnes and 873201 tonnes in the second quarter and third quarter of this year. The cost of import estimated to stand at USD 1.8 billion and USD 2.3 billion in Q2 and Q3 respectively.

In Q4, Vietnam is estimated to import about 698898 tonnes of aluminium bar rods and profiles. The value of import is projected to reach USD 1.7 billion by the end of December.
