UK’s export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips is on a downtrend YoY

The global demand for aluminium sheet is rapidly rising as the vehicle manufacturers are opting for aluminium in their products.  Europe is the major market for automotive aluminium sheet in the world. The demand stood at 1 million tons in 2015, and is expected to reach 1.7 million tons by 2020.

According to the recent estimate, UK registered a fall in export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips year-over-year. In 2017, the country is estimated to export less of aluminium plates, sheets and strips compared to last couple of years.

In 2015, UK exported 154979 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips. UK exported an estimated 135447 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips in 2016. The country is estimated to export 132677 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips in 2017.

Revenues from export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips have also dropped year-on-year. UK earned USD 584.58 million from aluminium plates, sheets and strips export in 2015. The total revenue from the export amounted to USD 463.60 million in 2016. In 2017, total revenue from aluminium plates, sheets and strips export is estimated to reach USD 428.89 million.

In 2026, the country exported the largest part of aluminium plates, sheets and strips to France (33387 tonnes), Germany (24766 tonnes) and India (11169 tonnes).
