Top Five Importers of Aluminium Cans from Germany in 2017

Germany, the 3rd largest export economy in the world and the 3rd most complex economy, is the leading exporter of aluminium cans in the world. The country’s aluminium producers and processors produce about 560,000 tonnes of aluminium annually. Germany, the major aluminium market in Europe, exported about 86093 tonnes of aluminium cans globally in 2017 and total revenue from can export amounted to about US$ 373 million.

The global aluminium cans production volume stood at around 293 billion in 2017.The beverage sector currently accounts for the majority of the global aluminium cans consumption. Aluminium cans use for beverage and aerosol packaging are the most recycled packaging units globally.

In this article, we have listed down the top aluminium can importers from Germany and their contribution to total export by the country for the year 2017.The top five destinations for Germany’s aluminium can export in 2017 were Netherlands, France, Belgium, United Kingdom and Switzerland. Please note: the following ranking could be changeable depending on data available through open source.

The Netherlands was the biggest aluminium can importer from Germany in 2017. Netherlands imported about 17859 tonnes of aluminium cans and the value of import stood at US$ 49 million tonnes. Global import-export data shows an increase in imports of this particular product in 2018.

France got second rank in the list of top importers from Germany. France registered aluminium can import value of US$74 million during the year 2017. The country imported about 11549 tonnes of aluminium cans. Belgium’s aluminium can import from Germany increased to 11337 tonnes in 2017, up 77% from 6403 tonnes in 2016. Total import cost was US$31 million last year.

United Kingdom stood fourth with the import of about 8240 tonnes of aluminium cans and the value of import stood at US$38 million. The country’s import of aluminium cans increased 123% year on year. Switzerland, the fifth largest importer from Germany, imported about 7857 tonnes of aluminium cans in 2017, from 6889 tonnes in 2016.

The aluminium can export by Germany is estimated to reach 74828 tonnes in 2018 and the revenue from export is estimated to be about US$1.2 billion. The data shows a downward trend for aluminium can export indicating a rise in domestic consumption.
