Top 10 ASI certifications under the downstream aluminium sector in 2022

Dedicated to maximising the contribution of aluminium to a sustainable society, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is an international multi-stakeholder and non-profit organisation which aims to promote sustainability along the whole value chain for aluminium.  They have established specific criteria to audit and verify the transparency and sustainability of aluminium across all phases of its production and transformation. And in 2022, the downstream sector of the global aluminium industry witnessed a lot of ASI certifications and membership, pointing towards the fact that sustainability is eventually becoming the need of the hour.

In addition to demonstrating accountability, ASI certifications can boost stakeholder and customer trust in aluminium goods by proving our performance to a third party. The ASI Performance and Chain of Custody Standards, which are applicable internationally and cover every stage of the aluminium value chain, provide rules for the ethical production, procurement, and management of aluminium.

Below is a list of companies under the downstream sector that received ASI certifications in 2022:

Yinbang Clad Material:  Yinbang Clad Material Co., Ltd joined Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as its new production and transformation member. Founded in 1988, Yinbang Clad Material Co., Ltd is one of the largest producers of aluminium alloy clad plates, strips, and foil for brazing in China. With this joining, Yinbang wants to gradually incorporate the relevant ASI standards into the way its business is run and its governance. These will not only help the company expand, but they will also help the aluminium industry establish a new reputation for being "capable, responsible, and sustainable."

ALG Aluminium Inc:  A technologically advanced state-owned joint-stock organisation situated in the ‘Green City’, Nanning, ALG Aluminium had successfully received the Production and Transformation Membership by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). With this joining, they decided to focus more on improving their corporate governance to meet the requirements of responsible production, reducing risks in the aluminium supply chain, fulfilling social responsibilities, and promoting sustainable development of the aluminium industry.

Hydro Extrusion in Suzhou: A great milestone for Hydro was when its aluminium extrusion plant in Suzhou became the first company in China to receive the ASI performance standard certification. The firm, located in Shanghai's Suzhou Industrial Park, employs roughly 350 workers and has undergone multiple expansion projects, the most recent of which is a NOK 390 million investment, since its inception in 2004.

Logan Aluminum: Logan Aluminum had been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible aluminium production, sourcing, and stewardship by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). The Russellville, Kentucky, factory of Logan Aluminum was granted the ASI Performance Standard Certification for remelting, recycling, casting, hot mill rolling, cold mill rolling, and coil finishing.

Jiangsu Alcha Aluminium:  Jiangsu Alcha Aluminium Group Co., Ltd joined the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as a new production and transformation division member on June 24. With this joining, the company aims to continue its work towards sustainability in a more enhanced way. Jiangsu Alcha Aluminium Group Co., Ltd. ("the Company" or "Alcha") was established as a provider of integrated clean technology solutions and comprehensive solutions for all kinds of heat transfer systems.

Alumex:  Alumex PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys Group and a market leader in fully integrated aluminium manufacturing in Sri Lanka, joined Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as its new member in the Production and Transformation division. Regarded as a pioneer and trusted leader in the local aluminium sector, the company is widely known for making superior aluminium extrusion. Alumex is driven by the idea of continuous innovation to produce ground-breaking aluminium goods, such as becoming the first business in South Asia to build a vertical powder coating facility.

Norsk Hydro: The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) had certified each of Hydro's three extrusion operations in Brazil, based on ASI's Performance Standard. Brazil's extrusion facilities with ASI certification include Itu (SP), Tubaro (SC), and Utinga (SP). There are about 900 workers throughout the factories.

Cevher Jant: For its automobile wheel production plant in Izmir, Turkey, Cevher Jant A.., a high-quality aluminium alloy wheel manufacturer in Turkey, received ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification with an emphasis on Material Stewardship. Cehever offers its capacity to design, develop, produce, and validate the made wheels as a co-design partner with auto OEMs.

Future of the Global Aluminium Castings Industry

CSMET Group: CSMET, a group company specialising in the R&D, production, marketing, and trading of low-carbon aluminium alloys, joined Aluminium Stewardship Initiative as the new Production and Transformation member. It was stated that the company wanted to be a pioneer in applying low-carbon aluminium alloys to preserve the spirit of altruism, seek advantages for customers, and provide strength to the low-carbon circular growth of the economy by pursuing "Green development."

Kunshan Huapin Aluminum: Kunshan Huapin Aluminum Co., Ltd had joined Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) as its new Industrial User member. The company is a specialized manufacturer focused on studying, creating, and marketing aluminium oxide materials. This ASI membership will help the group learn more and contribute to the sustainable development of the aluminium industry.
