The nation's largest Tomago Aluminium Smelter consumes around 11 per cent of the total energy production of NSW. However, the uppermost 200 in the country roots in about 28 per cent of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions.

Chris Bowen, the Energy Minister, will commence discussions with all industrial polluters to bolster a "safeguard mechanism" policy, by which businesses would decarbonize or purchase carbon credits to offset their emissions.
