Titagarh aluminum wagon proposal rejected by railway

Titagarh Wagons Limited’s proposed JV with FreightCar America Inc has suffered a setback with the Indian Railways rejecting the design prototype of aluminum wagons developed by the parties.
Titagarh’s another plan to set up JV initiative with a Japanese company to make bridges however, may see some concrete development soon despite uncertainties in the wake of the twin disaster of earthquake and tsunami suffered by the island nation sometime back.
Mr Umesh Chowdhury MD of Titagarh said that “It was a new concept that we have been trying to introduce into the Indian railway system which is use of aluminum coal carrying wagons. The concept has not yet been accepted or found feasible in the Indian context because of reasons like possible pilferages of aluminum and design code differentials between Indian and US standards as a result of which the whole thing has been delayed.”
The parties are not calling off the JV as yet but pursuing the matter with railway authorities.
