
South32 Ltd’s aluminium output stood at 986,000 tonnes in FY20, unchanged from last year. In June quarter, production was unchanged at 245,000 tonnes.
Hillside Aluminium saleable production increased by 3,000 to a record 718,000 tonnes in FY20 as the smelter continued to test its maximum technical capacity, despite the impact to production from increased load-shedding.

Despite the health crisis, we delivered a strong operating result, highlighted by annual production records at Brazil Alumina, Hillside Aluminium and Australia Manganese ore,” Graham Kerr, South32 CEO.
Mozal Aluminium saleable production increased by 1,000 tonnes to 268,000 tonnes in FY20 as the smelter continued to test its maximum technical capacity, despite the impact to production from increased load-shedding.
“In order to further improve the smelter’s cost competitiveness we continue to execute the AP3XLE energy efficiency project during FY20. The project is expected to deliver a circa 5% (or 10kt pa) increase in annual production by FY24 with no associated increase in power consumption.”
