SMACO, a renowned water-diving accessory maker, has launched its latest SMACO S400Plus 1L DOT-Certified portable mini scuba diving tank made of aluminium to resist underwater corrosion. This diving tank can hold backup air for almost 15-20 minutes.
SMACO, a brand that is synonymous with fire rescue equipment and outdoor sports products, has composed the entire body of the mini scuba diving tank with aerospace-grade aluminium alloys to increase durability and corrosion resistance. Since a scuba tank needs to stay underwater that too enduring salty seawater all the time, particular focus must be placed on the material used for making the tank so that it doesn’t create any toxic elements for the diver.
Aluminium alloys that are aerospace-grade come with some additional guarantees as the material can resist internal or external corrosion and provide damage resistance underwater.
The aluminium cylinder has to hold on to the high-pressure air inside, which is decompressed to be inserted within the chamber and needs a similar process to get out of the tank. During use, the main flow valve of the air outlet must be pushed in so that the air inside might get released. The tank’s output can be blocked when not in use so that the air remains intact within the tank.
Besides the aluminium conclave, the design also includes a luminous pressure gauge made of stainless steel. This illuminated gauge is visible under deep seawater in total darkness. Another material used in the tank is food-grade silicon, so the user is bereft of any particular stench.
The tank is quite user-friendly in a way, also with ample sustainability and added environmental benefits. Using aluminium has opened various avenues for a circular economy, as at the end of the S400Plus’ life, it might be returned for a simple recycling process.
