According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. The first few days of the March buy-week had initially seen prices soaring, with transactions completed close to $220 a long ton. Mojave Aluminum President Eric Shen has officially notified the city that his company will not proceed with building a $120 million, 500,000-square-foot aluminium remelt and casting house plant in Lenwood. In a letter addressed to Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre and City Council Members dated received on March 17, Shen blamed the project's demise on the Dupre Analytics report that was released in August. Government of India has come up with a list of industries that would now be classified as red, orange or green, and the different rules that they would be subjected to. This decision pertaining to a new colour-coded categorisation of industries based on a particular industry's pollution potential was made in 2015. It took the government a year to finalise the list of industries. A new category, white, has been added to include the industries that are “practically non-polluting”.
