According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. The UAE based environmental waste management company Dulsco-the Dubai recently broke ground at its new 500,000 square-foot recycling facility Dubai Industrial Park (DIP). The ceremony was attended by the top executives from both Dulsco and DIP. The recycling plant, being built at a total cost of US$6.8 million, will recycle aluminium products as well as other metal components. Constellium N.V. today announced that it has installed a new aluminium recycling furnace at its Muscle Shoals, Ala. facility in an effort to expand recycling capabilities in North America. French waste giant Veolia has announced that they have opened first PV recycling facility in Rousset, Bouches-du-Rhône, southern France. The plant will recycle 1,400 tonnes of material per year from 2017 and scale up to 4,000 tonnes by 2021. Veolia has teamed with PV Cycle, the Pan-European take-back and recycling association, for the installation of first PV recycling facility. According to the latest monthly statistics from Aluminum Association, the new can stock (class) scrap receipts in the United States totalled 52.8 million pounds during February 2017. This registered a drop of 4.1 per cent from the February 2016 total of 55.0 million pounds. On a month on month comparison, new can stock (class) scrap receipts dropped 4.3 per cent from the January 2017 total of 55.1 million pounds. Philip Hammond, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, has presented the 2017 Spring Budget yesterday 8 March. The budget sets the future target rates for the recycling of aluminium packaging till 2020. Bermuda government has restarted operations at its Material Recovery Facility at Devon Springs in Bermuda. The facility recycles 50 tonnes of aluminium cans, tins cans and glass bottles through Bermuda’s blue bag recycling programme.
