In her new position, Barrera will lead the global marketing plan with an emphasis on developing segment growth, defining competitive positioning and increasing customer engagement. To accomplish this, she will manage analysis of market trends, facilitate product innovation and promote packaging advancements, an essential portfolio as food and beverage brands are confronted with increasing desire for safer, recyclable and regulatory compliant coatings.
“Meghan brings a strong track record of growth, cross-segment leadership and technical expertise to our business and customers,” said Denise Lu, PPG vice president, Packaging Coatings. “Her strategic vision and customer-focused mindset will be essential in guiding our global efforts and delivering innovative solutions to our partners.”
A proven track record
Barrera's appointment follows her tenure of over twenty years at PPG, where she has held a variety of leadership positions within Automotive Refinish, Marine Coatings, OEM Coatings and EHS. Most recently, as Business Director, Refinish Allied Products, Barrera launched five new product categories and generated double-digit growth across North America. Before that, she was also the Director of Global Business Development and Strategy for Refinish Coatings and led the Global Marine Sea Stock segment and business execution.
Her strong technical background is matched with community leadership, including serving on the board of the Pittsburgh CLO and as a COR representative for the Society of Women Engineers. Barrera holds a chemical engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business.
Parallel shifts in packaging coatings
Barrera’s promotion comes after another important leadership transition in PPG’s Packaging Coatings business. Rodolfo Ramirez was appointed Division General Manager of the Packaging Coatings business in 2023 and replaced Amy Ericson. Ramirez is to help drive the penetration of next-generation sustainable technologies for food and beverage packaging. This includes expanding PPG’s expertise in coatings for aluminium beverage cans. Her appointment was viewed as a necessary step to help align the company’s innovation agenda with unsustainable global regulations and sustainability pressures.
