Nautor Swan’s 43.5-metre aluminium supermaxi takes shape ahead of 2028 delivery

Nautor Swan has unveiled new details and official renderings of its 43.5-metre Swan Alloy 44, the Finnish yacht builder’s first aluminium supermaxi, with construction now underway in the Netherlands.

The yacht is being built at Gouwerok Shipyard, where hull and deck construction are currently in progress. Once this stage is completed, the vessel will move to Viareggio, Italy, for final outfitting, launch and delivery, which is scheduled for 2028. The project will also become the largest yacht ever built by Gouwerok Shipyard and its first all-aluminium supermaxi.

Although construction is taking place outside Finland, Nautor Swan’s team will continue to oversee key aspects of the programme, including its design philosophy, performance studies and supply-chain coordination.

The Swan Alloy 44 was first unveiled during the shipyard’s Swan Talks 2025. The project combines a slender exterior by Malcolm McKeon with a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, extensive customisation and a focus on lifecycle serviceability. Nautor Swan’s new Italian product development and technical office teams also contributed to its development.

McKeon said the project was about more than creating the largest Swan to date, describing it as an opportunity to explore what the brand could become at a larger scale. He said aluminium allowed the design team to explore new possibilities while retaining the restrained styling associated with Swan.

The yacht’s interiors have been designed by Parisian studio Studio Liaigre, with the design combining style, comfort and livability. Expansive windows and a close connection between the interior and exterior decks are intended to maintain a continuous relationship with the sea.

The upper deck provides an open, spacious area designed for both socialising and relaxation, while the lower areas offer a more intimate environment with tactile surfaces and a warm tonal palette.

Guillaume Rolland, principal of Studio Liaigre, said the interior concept was developed around the sea and the experience of sailing, with spaces shaped by light, movement and the horizon.

Hull one of the Swan Alloy range was personally commissioned by Sanlorenzo executive chairman Massimo Perotti. The project is part of Nautor Swan’s expansion into larger sailing yachts following its acquisition by the Sanlorenzo Group in 2024.

Nautor Swan is also continuing its partnership with Edmiston for the commercial launch of the Swan Alloy range. The programme forms part of a €35 million investment initiative following Sanlorenzo’s acquisition of the Finnish brand.

The company has also revealed initial images of the next yachts in the aluminium Alloy range. These include the 50-metre Alloy 50, designed by McKeon with interiors by Axel de Beaufort, along with a 60-metre ketch sailing yacht whose details remain undisclosed.

With the Swan Alloy 44, Nautor Swan is moving its aluminium yacht programme into construction while laying the groundwork for a broader range of larger sailing yachts.
