The Indian born British industrialist Sanjeev Gupta, whose business empire includes the Lochaber aluminium smelter in Scotland, the UK’s only aluminium smelter, said: “The post-Brexit UK should abandon the European Union’s ‘outdated’ emissions rules.”

The call comes from the billionaire businessman as the British Government examines to adopt national emissions trading (ETS), which is analogous to the European Union’s ETS.

However, it also accords with this weekend’s UK and France-hosted climate action summit, a forbearer to UN talks in Glasgow next year.
Sanjeev Gupta, the Executive Chairman and CEO of GFG Alliance, whose Paris-based subsidiary Alvance Aluminium Group, a globally integrated aluminium business that brings together assets across the aluminium supply chain from raw materials through to finished components, also called on Boris Johnson to “put meat on the bones” of his lately announced green-based recovery plan.
