Mega Aluminum park by NALCO & Odisha to boost MSME sector in Odisha
A seminar-cum-buyer seller meet & ancillary development programme held on the 6th day of Odisha MSME International Trade Fair hosted a number of representatives from various corporate and PSUs like NALCO, NINL, PPT, HCL, RSP-SAIL. Speakers present in the seminar urged the PSUs to come forward and procure raw material as well as service from the MSME sector to support development of the sector in the state.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. A K Patra, GM-Materials, NALCO informed about the initiatives taken by the Navaratna Company. Nalco has made a special provision to purchase 4% of MSME products out of 20% made by Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India only from SC/ST SME entrepreneurs. It has taken an exclusive drive for the SC/ST entrepreneurs. Most importantly it has erected a permanent one-of-its kind display hall for providing information of various items which could be supplied by the SME entrepreneurs. The mega Aluminum Park scheduled to be set up with a JV between Govt. of Odisha and NALCO will also provide big advantage for the SME entrepreneurs, added Mr. Patra. Mr. L Pattnaik from RSP stated that the PSU has been providing technical support to the entrepreneurs and a major buyer of MSME products (more than Rs. 100 crores). It has also been holding Plant Level Ancillary Meeting regularly.

Earlier in the day a symposium on ‘CSR activities for inclusive growth and Application of ITCs in MSMEs’ was held. Most of the speakers stressed on spending of more than 2% of profit towards CSR activities. They also demanded that the people should be made aware of how CSR activities benefit them. Exerts deliberating on the benefits of Information Communication Technology (ICT) said that it is the need of hour for MSME entrepreneurs to go online for marketing of their products and services. Mr. B K Dash, Jt Director, MSME Department said that entrepreneurs (more than 10 nos) can form a consortium and develop their own website/web-portals. It will provide online platform for B2B and B2C for the entrepreneurs.

It’s the era of the web and MSME entrepreneurs by going online will definitely be benefited and Govt. of India has provisions to provide monetary assistance to the entrepreneurs for developing their own web-portals, asserted Mr. Dash. Officials present in the symposium urged the PSUs and corporate houses to formulate long term planning and vision to imbibe real meaning of CSR and inclusive growth.
