Japan’s export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips estimated to increase in Q2 2017-18

Japan is one of the biggest aluminium consumers in Asia. The country’s aluminium flat rolled production is on upward trend. The total FRP production in the country was estimated at 1,249.9 thousand tonnes last year. In January 2017, the production reached 91.8 thousand tonnes, rising 2.5 per cent from 89.6 thousand tonnes in the same period previous year. Japan’s export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips is also forecasted to be increased in Q2 2017-18.

According to the data released by the Japan Aluminium Association, the shipments of rolled aluminium products to domestic and overseas markets rose 3 per cent from a year ago to 174,890 tonnes in May, marking third consecutive month of year-on-year growth.

As shown by our data, Japan exported 68417 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips in Q3 2016-17. The export increased to 71539 tonnes in Q4 2016-17.  Japan’s shipments of aluminium plates, sheets and strips dropped in the Q1 2017-18 as well as Q2 2017-18 as compared to Q4 2016-2017. The country exported an estimated 69316 tonnes in in Q1 2017-18. Japan is estimated to export 69527 tonnes in Q2 2017-18.

Japan’s revenue from export of aluminium plates, sheets and strips stood at USD 319.27 million in Q3 2016-17. The value increased to USD 369.42 million in Q4 2016-17. The revenue from export reached USD 367.68 million in Q1 2017-2018. The country is estimated to register a rise in export revenues in Q2 2017-18.The value is estimated to stand at USD 381.53 million.

In 2016, Thailand imported 71954 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips from Japan.  China imported 61130 tonnes and USA imported 24931 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and strips from the country.
