Japan aluminium buyers to pay 24-25% higher premiums in Q3

The premium for aluminium shipments to Japanese buyers has been set at $185 per tonne for July-September. The premium is higher by 24-25 per cent from the current quarter, reported sources involved in market pricing.

During April-June quarter, the premiums for aluminium shipments were $148-$149 per tonne. This also registers the fourth straight quarterly hike and the highest premiums since the April-June quarter in 2015, Reuters reported.

Japan is the biggest importer of aluminium in Asia and the premiums it agrees to pay for primary aluminium shipments for each quarter over the cash price settled at the London Metal Exchange (LME) set the benchmark for the region.
