Iran's primary aluminium output stood at 83,207 tonnes during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22). The output dropped 32% in comparison with last year's corresponding period. This was reported by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO). The output decline rate remains same from the first three months of the Iranian year. Aluminum production during the month to July 22 stood at 21,061 tonnes, off 31% YOY.

Flagship producer Iran Aluminum Company (IRALCO) contributed 61,208 tonnes of the total production, registering an increase of 1% year-on-year. It was followed by Hormozal Aluminum Company with 10,632 tonnes, down 72% YOY; and Almahdi Aluminum Company with 9,800 tons, down 59% YOY.
Iran has an estimated aluminium nameplate capacity of 457,000 tonnes per year. Aluminium production is expected to reach 1.5 million tonnes by 2025. Afghanistan, Turkey and Iraq are our major exports destinations for Iran’s aluminium. It is to be noted that the U.S. treasury imposed sanctions on the Iranian aluminium, iron, steel and copper sectors in May 2019. However, the country said they were not directly impacted by the sanctions.
