Germany’s aluminium bar rods and profiles import to be the highest in EU in 2017

The aluminium bar rods and profiles sector is a well-established, worldwide industry. Major international exporters of aluminium profiles operate out of China, the European Union, Canada, USA, and Japan. Among the top importing regions are the European Union and the USA- these two markets have traditionally fared high as major aluminium bar rods and profile importing regions due to their massive infrastructural advancements and refurbishment.

Global export-import data reveals that Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, and Italy are the top five aluminium bar rods and profiles importing countries in the EU. They are closely followed by other European countries like Austria, Greece, and Switzerland.

Germany imported the highest quantity of aluminium bar rods and profile in 2016. The import volume reached 489,303 tonnes. In 2017, the quantity is estimated to surge further reaching 505,878 tonnes by December end.

The UK remains the second largest importer of aluminium bar rods and profiles in the EU. In 2016, its aluminium bar rods and profiles import volume totalled 168,652 tonnes. This year, it is estimated to drop moderately to total at 133,896 tonnes.

Aluminium bar rods and profiles import by Belgium is also projected to drop in 2017. From 123,446 tonnes in 2016, it is estimated to come down to 120,227 tonnes by December 2017 end.

France and Italy are expected to witness surge in their aluminium bar rods and profiles imports in 2017 - from 229,680 tonnes and 61642.5 tonnes in 2016, the import volumes are estimated to rise to 248,749 tonnes and 67485 tonnes in 2017 respectively.
