Digital India gives fillip to OFC manufacturing using aluminium tubes and ACS

ZTT India Private Limited, a major manufacturer of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) and also the first to have a manufacturing unit in India, has grabbed the opportunity with both its hands as its product deals with arresting lightning as well as in data communication.
In the OPGW cable, the strands of OFC are covered by a central aluminium tube, which is further surrounded by a layer of 12 aluminium clad steel (ACS) wires to offer double protection.
ZTT India's plant at Sri City in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh has a capacity to produce 10,000 km of OPGW and 15,000 km of OFC per year. Its clientele include the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), AP Transco, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and other state power utilities. As part of capacity enhancement, ZTT now focuses on a major expansion drive and get ‘future-ready’.The advanced facilities in the plant will ensure smooth technical flow of fibre colouring and bundling units, followed by manufacturing unit, cable armouring and cable packaging delivery.
“We plan to have a second plant in our 10-acre compound to manufacture an additional 5,000 km of OPGW cables a year, besides some of the raw materials that go into its making. The additional investment in Sri City plant will be to the tune of $25 million,” said ZTT India Private Limited Managing Director Chen Zhaofeng ina recent interview.
With 70 per cent of the Indian market share in its kitty, the company markets 80 p.c. of its products to public sector undertakings and the remaining goes to the private sector for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) based projects. “The new facility will also provide additional jobs to 50-100 locals,” said its Chief Financial Officer Jason Jiang.
As a lot of development is poised to happen around the new capital region of Amaravati, which requires power transmission in sizeable quantity, the company pins its hopes on taking up EPC projects in the region soon.
