The founder and executive chairman of the London-listed Vedanta Resources, Anil Agarwal, announced on Tuesday that the Odisha government has assured him that they will provide the necessary raw materials to feed Vedanta’s one-million tonne Lanjigarh refinery within three to four months. The refinery is currently operating at 25 percent of its capacity due to lack of resources. In order to help these miners be wary of the health hazards, National Institute of Miners' Health (NIMH) has conducted a first-of-its-kind study to identify three biomarkers, or cell components, that can help assess the level of bauxite exposure.
