The data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) indicates that sales and production of automobiles in October have extended weak performances. In October, production of cars stood at 2.33 million units, 10.05 per cent lower from the same period last year and 0.92 per cent down from September. Sales also came down by 11.7 per cent year-on-year and 0.58 per cent month-on-month to 2.38 million units. The operators have confirmed that Liberty smelter plant is still on progress with its plan for establishing an alloy wheel manufacturing facility at Fort William. According to the report, Highland councillor Andrew Baxter and his colleagues lambasted the aluminium company last week for its slow progress on planning. EGA signs spent pot lining supply contract with Arkan to recycle smelting waste
Emirates Global Aluminium has signed a deal with Abu-Dhabi based construction and building materials company Arkan to supply them with spent pot lining from its smelting operations. Arkan will use these waste materials to manufacture cement. However, it is not clear yet that how much or how often EGA will deliver the wasted product to Arkan. Spent pot lining is the used inner lining of aluminium smelting pots, which is worn out and replaced every four to five years. This wasted product contains carbon, an alternative fuel, and refractory materials that can survive the firing process and become part of finished cement. According to Shanghai Metals Market, the A00 aluminium ingot price has extended its plunge over the weekend by RMB 30 per tonne on Monday, November 12, to stand at RMB 13830 per tonne. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 13810 per tonne and RMB 13850 per tonne, with spot discount to stand at RMB 40 per tonne. China’s total primary aluminium output during Jan-Oct stands low Y-o-Y despite a growth in October production
According to the data shared by Shanghai Metals Market, China’s primary aluminium production for the month of October stood at 3.114 million tonnes, up 3.5 per cent from the same period last year. This grew overall production during January-October to 30.166 million tonnes but still stood lower by 0.8 per cent than the corresponding period last year. As of the end of October, there were about 37.48 million tonnes of primary aluminium capacity in operation across China and about 4.82 million tonnes of idle capacity. According to the data by Shanghai Metals Market, stocks of 6063 aluminium billet across five major consumption areas in China dropped by some 11,300 tonnes over the weekend ended on Thursday, November 8 to stand at 129,800 tonnes. SMM believes downstream buyers stockpiled as prices dipped over the week and this accounted for the decline in stocks. Mexico’s aluminium scrap import surged in Q1 2018 but estimated to stand low in the entire year
After a sweeping rise last year, Mexico’s aluminium scrap import is likely to see a plunge in 2018 from 317,561 tonnes to 266,558 tonnes, found the global export-import data. This marks a drop by around 16 per cent year-on-year. In contrast to this, Mexico’s aluminium scrap import had increased by almost 192 per cent in 2017 from 108,660 tonnes in 2016 to 317,561 tonnes. US to reduce duties on Chinese aluminium sheet products
The US Commerce Department reportedly announced on Wednesday, November 7, about levying final anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on Chinese common alloy aluminium sheet products of 96.3 per cent to 176.2 per cent. For the first time, these duties are issued in a trade remedy case initiated by the US government since 1985. The Trump administration has pledged to take a more aggressive approach to trade enforcement by having the Commerce Department launch more anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties on behalf of private industry.
