To commemorate the World’s Environment Day yesterday, on June 5, some ten tonnes of garbage including aluminium ladders and cans were collected in Nepal for recycling, said Nepali officials. A team of fourteen men was sent by the government for six weeks to scour for litter from base camp to Camp 4 - nearly 26,300 feet up to collect empty cans, bottles, plastic and discarded climbing gear. The bags of trash arrived at Kathmandu on road and air and then handed over to a local recycling company. Aluminium billet inventories shrink by 14,000 tonnes over the week
According to Shanghai Metals Market, aluminium billet inventories in China have extended fall over the week ended on June 6, as significant deliveries have yet to arrive at warehouses. SMM data shows that the stocks of 6063 aluminium billet across five major consumption areas have decreased today by some 14,000 tonnes to stand at 63,100 tonnes. The decline in billet stocks thus, records higher today compared with May 30 when the stocks had dropped only by 1,200 tonnes. Norsk Hydro in the financial report of the first quarter of FY2019-20 reportedly posted that its underlying earnings before financial items and tax came in at NOK559 million, compared with NOK3147 million in the same quarter last year. Vietnam imposes temporary anti-dumping duties on aluminium products from China
As announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Vietnam is reportedly levying temporary anti-dumping duties on China’s aluminium semi-finished products, including both alloy and non-alloy products produced in bars, rods or any other shapes that have been extruded, regardless of whether the surface is treated or the products are further processed in Vietnam. US Forestry Service asks Ghana to be watchful about bauxite mining in Atewa forest reserve
The United States Forestry Service (USFS) has reportedly warned the Ghana government to be careful with its plan of bauxite mining in Atewa forest reserve, which is one of largest surviving rainforests in Ghana and considered to be one of the three areas for bauxite mining.
