Post the Chinese New Year holiday from January 24 to February 2, 2020, the Chinese market has seen a “never-before” sharp drop in A00 aluminium ingot price of RMB 500 per tonne to stand at RMB 13,600 per tonne on February 3, found Shanghai Metals Market. Labour Ministry summons BCGI management to disccus the layoff of 288 workers
The Ministry of Social Protection’s Department of Labour, on Thursday afternoon, reportedly requested the management of Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc. (BCGI) to be present in a meeting on Friday to discuss the layoff of 288 employees last week. Junior Minister of Social Protection Keith Scott has been harping that BCGI did not properly inform the Ministry about the layoff. He said if the meeting on Friday yields no resolution, then the Chief Labour Officer would declare a deadlock and refer the dispute to no adjudication. United Company Rusal, one of the world’s largest aluminium companies by primary production output, has reportedly invested around 60 million roubles for modernising coke-calcining kiln at its Volgograd aluminium smelter. The modernisation of the kiln is for enhancing the environmental aspects of production and intensifying the plant’s coke calcining process. The global trade data suggests a year-on-year drop of 14 per cent in the Netherlands’ total alumina imports in 2020. From 1.45 million tonnes in 2019, the imports at the end of 2020 are likely to come in at 1.24 million tonnes, showed the data. Aluminium stocks at Japan ports dropped 2.2% M-o-M and 1% Y-o-Y in December
After a rise of 0.9 per cent to 321,000 tonnes in November, aluminium stocks at three major Japanese ports at the end of December recorded a drop of 2.2 per cent to 314,000 tonnes, according to Reuters report. In October also the stocks had registered a fall of 2.6 per cent from 326,473 tonnes in September to 318,200 tonnes. Arconic’s revenue in Q4 2019 dropped by 2%, while in the whole year rose by about 1%
Arconic, in its quarterly and full-year performance report, has updated that the company’s revenue in the fourth quarter of 2019 came in at $3.4 billion, registering a drop of 2 per cent year on year. However, the organic revenue was up by 1 per cent over the year, noted the company in its report. The operating income and net income were also high at $416 million and $309 million, or $0.70 per share, respectively, compared to $323 million and $218 million, or $0.44 per share, in Q4 2018. Alupro seeks recycle aluminium market development details after PRN price hikes
Alupro, aluminium recycling trade body, has reportedly asked for 2019 recycle aluminium market development assessments in lights of high PRN prices from the Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) system, even though the targets of the year were being met. According to the data, which is, however, to be finalised in March, around 33,000 tonnes of aluminium were recycled in the fourth quarter of FY20, exceeding the yearly target by 3,000 tonnes to 116,000 tonnes. After three years of back-to-back rise, the aluminium scrap exports from France are estimated to see a slight downfall in 2020, found the international trade data. From 533,972 tonnes in 2019, the export amount is likely to dip by 1.76 per cent to 524,574 tonnes. In 2018, France’s aluminium scrap exports were 497,771 tonnes after growing by 7 per cent from 465,461 tonnes in 2017. The data indicate that France’s aluminium scrap exports in 2019 saw a rise of 7.27 per cent.
