2013 marked several milestones for BALCO

Its plant received National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2013 in August for Energy Efficient Unit in general category organised by CII in Hyderabad. Mehfooz Ahmed, AGM, CPP-1 and Sujit Mathew, Manager, Pot Room, received the award from Ajay Mathur, Head, Bureau of Energy Efficiency. LS Ganapati, Chairman, National Award for Excellence in Energy Management-2013 was present in the function.
Balco also bagged the ‘Chairman Sustainability Trophy’ for January-June 2013 for its performance on sustainability indicators. The company, being subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Plc, has aligned all its management systems with the management standard of holding company which is called ‘Vedanta Sustainability Framework.’
Balco also received Sitaram Rungta Social Awareness Award conferred by Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) for its significant work in building social awareness in communities and surroundings near Bodai-Daldali bauxite mines in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh. Adding another feather to its cap, the pavilion created by BALCO at ‘Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava 2013’ in Raipur won runners up award in the best stall category.
Balco General Manager BK Srivastava received the award from Governor Shekhar Dutt on November 1. It also put a new jewel in its crown by winning the prestigious ‘Manufacturing Today Awards 2012-13’ for its excellence in innovation and human resources practices. It was also awarded the runners up in ‘Manufacturing Today Excellence in Human Resources’ in the large enterprises category at the award ceremony held at Hotel Hyatt Regency in Pune on September 28.
Balco Smelter was honoured with Environmental Best Practices Award 2013 by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The company got the award for developing innovative Online Busbar Welding Technology. Seven Balco teams participated in the Quality Circle National Convention in Kolkata and won the excellence award for their better performances. Adding on to the list of awards, Balco plant-2 won the prestigious India Manufacturing Excellence Gold Award early this month for its performance in metal sector for the third straight year. Balco vice president (Hot-metal) Deepak Prasad received the award from the organiser in a grand function in Mumbai.
The ‘Indian Manufacturing Excellence Award 2013’ was conferred to Balco under mega industries category for its excellence in product quality and productivity. The company has also been separately honoured with Bhasha Ratna 2013 for its contribution in the fields of art, culture and literature. The award was handed over to senior Balco officials in Bhopal recently.
