The global aluminium extrusion industry is entering a new phase of growth, driven by lightweight transportation, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, industrial automation and the transition towards low-carbon materials. As demand shifts across regions and end-use sectors, identifying where consumption will grow, which applications will drive demand and how capacity is evolving is becoming increasingly important for extrusion producers, billet suppliers, OEMs, investors and procurement teams.
What will drive global aluminium extrusion demand through 2035?
Global aluminium extrusion usage is projected to increase from 35.25 million tonnes in 2025 to 44.22 million tonnes by 2035, representing a 2.29% CAGR and approximately 8.97 million tonnes of incremental demand.
Growth will increasingly be shaped by electrification, renewable energy, sustainable construction, digital infrastructure and industrial manufacturing. Aluminium's strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, design flexibility and recyclability are supporting its adoption across applications where lightweighting, energy efficiency and lifecycle performance are becoming increasingly important.
Key demand drivers include:

Global extrusion capacity exceeds demand
Global aluminium extrusion capacity stood at approximately 49.9 million tonnes in 2025, compared with estimated demand of 35.25 million tonnes, creating a capacity surplus of around 14.65 million tonnes.
China accounts for approximately 66% of global extrusion capacity, reinforcing its position as the dominant supply base. At the same time, producers are investing in larger extrusion presses, cleaner billets and post-consumer scrap utilisation as the market moves towards higher-value applications and lower-carbon production.

Where will aluminium extrusion demand grow the fastest?
China will remain the largest aluminium extrusion market, but growth is increasingly shifting towards emerging regions, particularly the Rest of Asia-Pacific (ROAP).
ROAP is projected to record the fastest regional growth through 2035, supported by China+1 manufacturing strategies, infrastructure expansion in India and Southeast Asia, and the localisation of EV and solar manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Europe is moving towards high-value, low-carbon extrusions, North America is positioned for a long-term rebound, and the Middle East, Africa and South America are benefiting from infrastructure and urbanisation-led demand.

Data centres emerge as a new growth engine
The rapid expansion of AI, cloud computing and hyperscale data centres is opening a high-value growth opportunity for aluminium extruders.
Rising computing densities are increasing demand for lightweight, thermally efficient and precision-engineered aluminium profiles across:
The opportunity extends beyond data centre facilities. The renewable energy and grid infrastructure required to power these facilities is creating additional demand for extruded aluminium, positioning data centres as a broader growth catalyst across the value chain.
Which end-use sectors will drive the next phase of growth?
Building & Construction will remain the largest consumer of aluminium extrusions through 2035. However, faster growth in transportation, electrical & electronics and industrial applications is expected to gradually reshape the demand mix.
Transportation demand is being supported by EV adoption and lightweighting, while electrical and electronics applications are gaining momentum from thermal management, power distribution and digital infrastructure. Industrial demand is being supported by automation, robotics, machinery and modular manufacturing.
