UK’s import of aluminium stranded wire during 2019-22 signifies continuous growth

Aluminium wiring in homes is available in two styles: solid and stranded. A solid wire consists of a single conductor and is typically found in 120V circuits that are lower amperages (20A & 15A). Stranded wires are multiple pieces of wire bundled together to form one larger wire, and they are commonly used in homes with higher amperage circuits (>25A). Although solid wire is rarely used in residential construction nowadays, stranded aluminium wire is quite common, and when installed properly, it is considered a safe material for residential use.

The United Kingdom, one of the leading economies of the world imported 12,579 tonnes of aluminium stranded wires during 2019-21, incurring revenue expenditure of $36.74 million for the import.

In 2019, the UK reported importing 2438 tonnes of aluminium stranded wires, counting expenditure for the import of around $7.23 million, whereas, in 2020, the import signified a remarkable growth by 76.37%, as the import volume excelled to 4300 tonnes, propelling expenditures to $12.13 million.

The import of aluminium stranded wires in 2021 was documented at 5841 tonnes, with a 35.83% raise and the expenditure soared to $17.38 million.

Aluminium stranded wires import in the UK is analysed with further growth of 65.89%, as the import volume is anticipated to scale up to 9690 tonnes, driving expenditure to ascend at $29.47 million.

The major trading destinations for the UK’s importation of aluminium stranded wires are Bahrain, Belgium, China, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, UAE, etc.
