Successful trial of Talgo train inspires Indian Railways to consider more aluminium coaches

<p>The successful trial run of Spanish made Talgo train has encouraged Indian Railways to consider introducing more aluminium coaches in the country's rail network to add to the speed of transport and reduce travelling time between different locations. <br /><br />The aluminium Talgo train completed its final trial run between Delhi and Mumbai on Sunday in less than 12 hours running at a maximum speed of 150 kilometres per hour. It is the light-weightedness of the coaches that has helped make the train speedier, a much needed upgrade for the Indian railways.<br /><br /><img style="vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/Talgo.jpg" alt="News" width="550" height="480" /><br /><br />Asked whether the ministry has any plans to consider Talgo train for the Railway's future projects Railway Board Member (Rolling Stock) Hemant Kumar said, "We are exploring the possibilities of introduction of lightweight aluminium coaches in our railway system. We are looking at similar light weight type trains for speedy run on the existing network." <br /><br />Asked about how the ministry plans to acquire such type of coaches Kumar said, "we are examining every aspects. Whether to go for single tender or opting for open tendering process to acquire such train, we have to take a call on it."<br /><br />{googleAdsense} <br /><br />The Talgo train with coaches made of aluminium covered the distance between Delhi and Mumbai in 11 hours 42 minutes in its final trial on Sunday. The Spanish-made light-weight coaches with Indian Railways locomotive had left New Delhi at 2.45 PM on September 10 and reached Mumbai at 2.33 AM next day early morning on September 11 covering the 1,384 km stretch travelling at about maximum speed of 150 KMPH. <br /><br />Aluminium-made, lightweight Talgo aims to reduce travel time between Delhi-Mumbai by four hours. This is in comparison with the super-fast Rajdhani Express train which takes around 16 hours to cover the same distance at 140 kilometres per hour speed.</p>
