Munich-based travel brand Floyd has entered the aluminium luggage segment with CABIN ALUMINIUM, its first cabin suitcase made from the metal. The new model combines an all-aluminium body with the brand’s signature skateboard-style spinner wheels, bringing its distinctive design approach to a more traditional premium lu]ggage material.

The suitcase is formed from a single sheet of 100% aluminium, with a tone-on-tone silver finish that keeps the exterior understated. Natural leather handles on the top and sides add contrast to the metal body, while the 360-degree skateboard wheels retain a defining feature of Floyd’s existing luggage range.

CABIN ALUMINIUM comes with a built-in three-digit TSA lock, a leather luggage tag, a duster and a shoe bag. Measuring 55.5 x 39.0 x 23.0 centimetres, it offers 41 litres of storage capacity and weighs 5.2 kilograms. Its dimensions and capacity match those of Floyd’s polycarbonate Cabin model.

Aluminium designed to develop character

Floyd presents the marks that accumulate on aluminium luggage as part of the product’s character rather than simply as signs of wear. Scratches and dents collected during travel are intended to give each case a distinctive appearance over time.

The approach places the material’s changing appearance at the centre of the product’s design, while retaining a clean silver finish and leather detailing.

From skateboard culture to aluminium luggage

Founded in Munich in 2019 by Bernd Georgi and Horst Kern, Floyd draws on the founders’ shared interest in skateboarding and their professional backgrounds in luggage and accessories, including the production of cases for major automotive brands.

The company’s original concept was inspired by the Venice Beach skate scene of the 1970s and 1980s. Its suitcases use polyurethane wheels based on those found on skateboards from the era, with interchangeable colours allowing customers to customise their luggage.

CABIN ALUMINIUM extends that design philosophy into a new material category, pairing the brand’s recognisable wheels with an aluminium shell.
