LNER, first UK rail operator to serve spirits in 100% recycled aluminium bottles

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Sustainability is now right on track with London North Eastern Railway (LNER) trains, which range between Scotland and London, offering new spirits by Dutch Barn Vodka, Farm Distillery's Y-Gin, and Scottish Common Ground Whiskey, all packed in a 100 per cent postconsumer recycled aluminium bottle. These collaborations share common values, all of which point to sustainability.

Dutch Barn Vodka, well known for its ultra-smooth flavour, and Y-Gin, for its distinctive London Dry-style gin, champion Yorkshire's culinary heritage through a blend of botanicals and an eco-conscious twist. Meanwhile, Scottish Common Ground Whiskey is a new in-line spirit released by Brand Tap Group.

These partnerships among the three companies demonstrate a commitment to sustainability by using 100% postconsumer recycled aluminium bottles as their packaging strategy, which not only reduces the overall cost but also minimises the environmental impact by lowering emissions.

Chris Fraser, the founder of Ellers Farm Distillery, stated, "We've never been ones to follow the crowd. So, partnering with LNER, a leader in low-emission travel passing right by our doorstep felt like a natural fit. It's a perfect match of bold flavours and shared values."

This approach also upholds the LNER policy of "zero-waste to landfill", ensuring that all recycled aluminium bottles are 100 per cent recycled for consumer use.

David Mills, Sustainaholics founder, says, "This is a first-class listing in every sense of the term and a progressive partnership reducing the environmental impact of product and packaging whilst offering customers something unique. LNER is the first rail operator to embrace aluminium, reflecting a growing trend to switch to 100 per cent recycled aluminium from the glass and PET miniatures that have dominated the industry for decades."
