BMW Motorrad has revealed the new F 450 R as a road-focused addition to its 450 range, with the motorcycle expected to arrive in India early next year. The new naked streetfighter combines a 420 cc parallel-twin engine with a lightweight chassis package that includes several aluminium components.
The BMW F 450 R has a ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg, with its lightweight construction supported by an aluminium double-sided swingarm, cast aluminium 17-inch wheels and forged aluminium foot controls. The motorcycle uses a tubular steel space frame, with the engine serving as a load-bearing element.
Up front, the F 450 R gets a 43 mm KYB upside-down fork, while the rear uses a KYB monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound. The Sport Suspension version additionally offers adjustable compression and rebound damping at the front. The motorcycle rides on 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tubeless tyres.
BMW F 450 R packs 48 hp twin-cylinder engine
Power comes from a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 420 cc parallel-twin engine producing a maximum 48 horsepower at 8,750 rpm and peak torque of 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. BMW says 80 per cent of the available torque is delivered at 3,000 rpm.
The engine uses a 135-degree crankpin offset and a balance shaft, and is paired with a six-speed gearbox and left-side X-ring chain drive. BMW says the motorcycle has a fuel consumption figure of 3.8 litres per 100 km, while its 14-litre tank provides a claimed range of more than 350 km.
The engine first appeared on the F 450 GS but receives road-specific tuning for the F 450 R. The service interval is set at 10,000 km.

Brembo brakes and electronic riding aids
Braking is handled by a 310 mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240 mm rear disc with a ByBre single-piston caliper. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro is standard.
The motorcycle comes with Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes, along with Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic Brake Control and engine drag torque control. Riding Modes Pro adds a configurable Dynamic Pro mode on selected versions.
The F 450 R also features a 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster with navigation, calls and music functions. M Sport versions add display layouts showing information such as traction control, braking force, lean angle and lap times. Full LED lighting, heated grips and a USB-C port are also standard.
Easy Ride Clutch available with Innovation Package
BMW offers its Easy Ride Clutch as part of the Innovation Package on the top version. The system operates the clutch according to engine speed and works with Shift Assistant Pro, while the conventional clutch lever remains available for manual operation.
BMW says the system is designed to reduce clutch operation during low-speed riding and gear changes without taking away direct rider control. Shift Assistant Pro enables clutchless upshifts and downshifts on all variants except the Base version, where it can be added later.
The BMW F 450 R will be offered in Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package variants. Seat height is 790 mm as standard, while optional low and Sport seats bring it down to 775 mm or raise it to 810 mm, respectively.
With its combination of a 48 horsepower twin-cylinder engine, 175 kg ready-to-ride weight and aluminium components, the BMW F 450 R is positioned as a road-focused addition to the brand's 450 family ahead of its expected India arrival.
