Qatar Aluminium Manufacturing Company (Qamco) in the financial results declared that its net profit pegged at QR 5.2 million for the seven-month period ended on June 30, 2019. These results primarily represent the share of net profit in Qamco’s joint venture Qatalum. Qatalum is a successful primary aluminium producer and one of the most efficient smelters in the region. Sino-Saudi joint venture plans to set up integrated aluminium complex in Egypt
According to a recent report, a Sino-Saudi joint venture is planning to establish an integrated aluminium complex in Egypt. The news came after trade and industry ministry of Egypt announced it officially on Thursday, July 25. The ministry said in a statement that the joint venture is between China’s Hangzhou Jinjiang Group and Saudi Arabia's Ajlan Group. They would together set up a complex, comprising of an alumina refinery, an aluminium smelter, a caustic soda plant, and two desalination plants spreading over six million square metres. CAAM projects automobile sales to drop by 5% in China in 2019
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has forecast the automobile sales to drop in China in 2019. Weaker purchasing capacity due to slower economic growth and the new vehicle emission standards could be some of the reasons for the estimated drop in car sales, according to a report by staffs from the association. As per the CAAM’s estimation, there is likely to be a 5 per cent drop in car sales in China this year to 26.68 million units, compared to a previous forecast of 28 million units. Lindian Resources Limited has reportedly received approval for raising a fund of up to $1.3 million from professional and sophisticated investors to be used to undertake the company’s inaugural drilling programme at the Gaoual Bauxite Project in Guinea. The $1.3 million includes $200,000 from Lindian’s Chairman Asimwe Kabunga, but subject to shareholders’ approval. According to Shanghai Metals Market, the inventories of 6063 aluminium billet have increased on Thursday, July 25, by some 1,600 tonnes to stand at 82,700 tonnes. The survey data of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) showed that global aluminium production dropped 0.5 per cent in the first half of 2019, as Lower Western output had been largely down due to temporary outages at two important smelters – Albras in Brazil and Becancour in Canada. The bearish market sentiment in China was another key factor for the world aluminium production fall in H1 2019. China’s alumina import in H1 2019 lowers 9.5% YoY; Import in June up 4.6% over the year
According to Shanghai Metals Market, China in June imported 50,000 tonnes of seaborne alumina, down 16.7 per cent from May but up 4.6 per cent from June 2018. With this, China’s import of alumina came in at 320,000 tonnes in the first half of 2019, down 9.5 per cent from the same period last year. Exports, on the other hand, stood more than half in June compared to May, amounting to 3,757 tonnes. Compared to the same period last year, the export amount stood down by 96.8 per cent. This brought China’s total volume of alumina exports to 180,819 tonnes in the first half of 2019, down 24.4 per cent year-on-year, according to China’s General Administration of Customs on Tuesday, July 23.

Canyon Resources Limited has reportedly acquired a fund of $4 million for the pre-feasibility study (PFS) development stage of Minim Martap Bauxite project in Cameroon. Nemak to close its Windsor Aluminium Casting Plant by mid-2020
Global automotive parts manufacturing company Nemak, headquartered in García, announced on Tuesday, July 16, that it planned to close down its aluminium casting plant at Windsor by mid-2020. This decision is a result of the early phase-out of an export programme with a customer in China, according to Nemak. Armando Tamez, CEO of Nemak, said in a media release, "Given our outlook on capacity utilization and volumes in Windsor, we have made the decision to end production at this facility."
